Beaulieu is a particularly special place for me – it’s where Mike and I got married. So, if I ever find myself in the New Forest area, I will always take a detour to visit the little village. This walk, from outside The Montagu Arms hotel to Bucklers Hard, is a wonderful route, passing through fields, woodland, along the rivers’ edge and ending up in the little marina with the sweet-sounding clang of rigging and boats. It takes around an hour and a half to do the walk – but you can lengthen the trip with a stop off at the pub in Bucklers Hard, or shorten it by swapping the meandering riverside path for a more direct and straight track through the middle of the forest. Either way, you won’t be disappointed.
