Whenever I visit my parents, I love to pay a visit to Orchardleigh, a wonderful estate near Frome, Somerset. It’s a beautiful setting and ideal for a quick pre- or post-lunch walk. Park at the Estate’s Golf Club and walk away from the impressive Victorian house towards the lake. Here, you can follow a well-marked path (muddy at times) through woodland, across fields, and past the 13th-century, Grade 1 island church St Mary’s, which, having no electricity, is completely candle-lit. Continue back towards the Golf Club, where the public are welcome to unwind with a well-deserved cup of tea.
