For many, Bradford-on-Avon is a must-visit Wiltshire market town, with its steeped streets hiding quirky independent cafes, vintage and antiques shops and 17th-century architecture. But, once you’ve browsed the homeware and gifts in By The Way, enjoyed a seasonal lunch at Fat Fowl and had locally-made Marshfield Farm ice cream by the Greenland Mill weir, take a gentle stroll along the River Avon and visit the 14th-century Tithe Barn (pictured). Here, as well as admiring the impressive timber cruck roof, you can discover the galleries and workshops of artisan makers. It’s also a perfect spot for summer picnics, with sun-trap greens and dappled-shaded river banks to relax on.
