I am a very lucky lady. I came home to find a beautiful package waiting for me on my doorstep – a gift from my wonderful neighbours who are heading off on a world-wide, belated GAP year adventure. The present? A delicate, cup-sized bowl from ceramicist and textile artist Sarah Nicol. Sarah works from her studio overlooking the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, with a garden complete with clucking chickens, fragrant flowers and beautiful birdsong. Here, with her partner Peter O’Neil, she creates not only her collection of pots, bowls and jugs, decorated with fishing boats, houses and fluffy white sheep, but she also sews up tactile cushions and doorstops, using fabric that, in many cases, has been dyed using natural and organic materials such as vegetables and leaves.
