Holt, a lovely village in Wiltshire that I had the pleasure to stumble across. Not only is The Courts Garden there, but, just a mile or two away, you can visit a second National Trust property, Great Chalfield Manor. A three-mile circular route featuring both properties, takes you through open fields, along country lanes and past impressive architecture. Plus careful fencing from the landowners makes it a fantastically dog-friendly outing, too. Download a path description and map from the AA. Whatever time you decide to do the walk, be sure to end it with a visit to Sam’s Kitchen at The Glove Factory, where feat and beetroot tarts, roast spring lamb and white chocolate cheesecake with rhubarb compote are just some of the seasonal delights on offer. Open for the May Bank Holiday!
